Sources & Standards

BritView.uk is committed to accuracy, transparency and accountability in all of our journalism. This page sets out the sources we rely on, the standards we uphold, and how we expect our reporting to be challenged. It forms part of our broader editorial policy and is reviewed regularly to reflect evolving best practice.

Who is responsible for the journalism on BritView.uk?

BritView.uk is published by Calpe Press Ltd., a private company limited by shares registered in Gibraltar (company number 129044), with its registered office at Unit 5, The Watergardens, Waterport Road, Gibraltar GX11 1AA. Editorial control rests entirely with the Editor-in-Chief, Jonathan Crawford, who oversees all publication decisions, corrections and content quality. The newsroom operates independently of any commercial, political or personal interests.

Day-to-day editorial planning is managed by Managing Editor Rebecca Marsh, while specialist editors lead coverage in their respective areas: Thomas Whitmore (Politics & Public Affairs), Amelia Foster (Business & Economy) and Sophie Marlowe (Culture & Lifestyle). Oliver Reeves, as Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, verifies sources and reviews sensitive stories before publication. Every editorial decision is made by trained journalists, not by advertisers, partners or external funders. Full details of our ownership and funding structure are available on our ownership and funding page.

What are our official and primary sources?

We give priority to authoritative, primary and official sources to ensure that our reporting is verifiable and trustworthy. These include data and statements from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), bills and debates from the UK Parliament, policy documents published on GOV.UK, company filings at Companies House, and original reporting from major international news agencies such as the BBC and Reuters.

Where we use data from the ONS, we link directly to the relevant statistical release or dataset. Parliamentary proceedings are sourced from Hansard and official parliament publications. Government announcements are checked against the relevant department’s press office or published ministerial statements. For corporate and financial stories, we rely on regulatory filings and investor relations materials. When we cite other news organisations, we use the original report and attribute it clearly, and we do not republish unverified claims from secondary outlets. Our fact-checking policy explains how we verify these sources before publication.

Which regulatory and standards bodies do we follow?

We voluntarily adhere to the standards and guidance of the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO), the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), even though BritView.uk is not a member of IPSO and operates from Gibraltar. These frameworks inform our approach to accuracy, privacy, corrections and advertising.

We follow the IPSO Editors’ Code of Practice as a benchmark for ethical journalism, including the principles of accuracy, privacy, harassment and discrimination. Our data handling complies with the ICO’s guidance on data protection, and we maintain a clear privacy policy. All commercial content, including sponsored articles and affiliate links, is clearly labelled in line with ASA requirements. We do not allow commercial considerations to influence editorial conclusions, as set out in our advertising and affiliate disclosure.

What do we rely on day to day?

Our daily newsgathering relies on direct access to primary sources, official databases, accredited wire services, and original reporting by our own journalists. We use the Press Association, Reuters and the BBC Monitoring service for breaking news, and we cross-check information with at least two independent sources wherever possible before publication.

For political and policy stories, we monitor parliamentary committees, government press conferences and think-tank reports. Business and economic coverage draws on FTSE data, Bank of England publications and ONS releases. Culture and lifestyle stories are sourced from verified event listings, press releases from recognised cultural institutions, and direct interviews with artists, authors or organisers. Opinion pieces and analysis are clearly labelled and do not carry the same verification burden as news, but they must still be factually accurate in their assertions. Digital tools may assist in research and transcription, as described in our AI and automation policy, but all content published is reviewed by a human editor.

How can you challenge our reporting?

We take every report of an error or omission seriously. If you believe a story contains a factual mistake, you can contact our corrections team directly at corrections@britview.uk or use the general complaints process at complaints@britview.uk. Fact-checking inquiries should be sent to factcheck@britview.uk.

Our corrections policy outlines how we handle requests, including timelines, the level of investigation and the prominence of corrections. We also maintain a formal complaints procedure for issues that cannot be resolved informally. All complaints are acknowledged within five working days, and we aim to resolve them within 15 working days. Where a correction is warranted, it is appended to the original article and noted in our corrections log. We do not charge for corrections and will never require a reader to agree to terms of service in order to file a complaint.

Our commitments

  • We will source all factual claims from primary, official or verifiable independent sources and clearly attribute them.
  • We will correct errors promptly, transparently and with appropriate prominence, as detailed in our corrections policy.
  • We will maintain editorial independence from advertisers, sponsors and political interests, and clearly label all commercial content.
  • We will protect the privacy of sources and subjects, and handle data in accordance with ICO guidance and our privacy policy.
  • We will review and update these standards at least annually, and respond openly to feedback from readers and the public.
